Ramos on returning to Sevilla: I’m finally home after 18 years

Ramos took to social media to express his gratitude to all those who helped him return to Sevilla in a thank you post. As he took to the stage in front of over 20,000 fans, he the legendary Spanish centre-back and hard man on the pitch could no longer hold back his tears. He paused briefly, his voice catching a little before he began to speak:

“Today is a special and emotional day. I am happy once again because after 18 years I am finally home. I would like to thank all the Sevilla fans from the bottom of my heart for making me feel loved here again.
I would like to thank the president, José Castro, and Orta, who made it possible for me to wear the number 4 shirt again. I would also like to pay tribute to my brother Rene, who is here today. I’d also like to pay tribute to three people who weren’t there, Puerta, my grandfather and my father.

Even though I lost my chance to go home for a while, I stayed optimistic. If I’m back here, it’s for some reason. If I’m here, it’s a unanimous decision. I don’t mind people’s comments. I’m a person who is moved by emotions and feelings. I have to believe I can do it. My Parisian passion is over and now I’m starting again in Seville. I hope I can win titles as captain, like Rakitic. It won’t be easy, but first I need to believe in myself.

If I score against Real Madrid? I’ll have to talk it over with Rakitic and see how I can handle it better on the spot. But it doesn’t matter, I always like a challenge and I always want to score. I’m looking forward to enjoying these days with you. There’s no doubt that I’m here to fight for the team, even die for it.

Joined on stage by his wife Pilar Rubio and his four children, the 37-year-old father said to his wife: “Thank you, my love. As we move forward on, we have always had four shining jewels to light our way.

Ramos, 37, became a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. Prior to that, clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey reportedly made him an offers. But in the end, Ramos chose to return to his old club Sevilla. On Wednesday, Ramos attended an unveiling ceremony at Sevilla’s home ground.
